‘My Truth’ & ‘Your Truth’ Are Not a Thing that Exists
The Truth is a Person, and truth is what exists inside Him; no other truth exists but the Truth, who is the Spirit of God. When one is in truth, they are in the Holy Spirit. Nothing and no one should refer to truth and not mean Him, the Truth. The truth, by definition, is not when something is true, it is deeper, spiritual, and specific to only Christ. It is Christ’s Spirit that is the Truth.
We can’t say, “It is the truth that this building is standing in front of me”, when in front of a building, because it is not ‘Christ’s Spirit’ that the building is standing in front of you. It is real, it is a fact, it may even be true, but it is never the Truth, because the truth is always the Spirit—who He is, how He is, and what He is.
“…And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.”
1 John 5:6 ESV
We don’t have our own truths because even the Truth of who we are is not ours, it’s the Lord God’s, the Creator of all things. When we witness an event with our eyes, it is not the truth because we beheld it with our eyes, it is rather that because we are in the image of God and have eyes to see, we have indeed seen what we’ve seen, and so it is rather our reality, not our truth, because it is God’s Truth. To not make it about semantics, what I’m saying is plain and simple, the truth has nothing to do with human beings as a species and what they witness or what is their reality, the truth and truth (Truth) is a name of God Almighty, not grammar or our individual realities.
Why This Is Important to Grasp
If one thinks they have their own truth, the truth they have is their own personal lie. Truth is not what we think is real, that’s our own personal reality, instead, truth can’t be claimed for it is given by the One who has and is it. Instead of “The truth is…”, it is best and most accurate to say, “The reality is…”, because truth can never be claimed, for, it becomes subjective to an individual, and once there are many truths then there’s no truth at all. Indeed, the truth is only in the hands of the Almighty God. The devil is the god of this world, and he is a liar and a deceiver. This is why the word ‘truth’ exists as not only relating to Mighty God, because if we have our own truths then we have a lie that successfully keeps us away from Truth.
‘My truth’ and ‘your truth’ aren’t a thing that exists. What is a thing that exists is ‘my reality’ and ‘your reality’. Only when truth has to do with Christ is when ‘your truth’ is the truth, because it’s not really “your” truth you are referring to but you have made God’s Truth the truth you live in. Just as ‘your love’ can only be love that is from and of God, as only He is Love, the same is with truth.
“For I rejoiced greatly when the brothers came and testified to your truth, as indeed you are walking in the truth.”
3 John 1:3 ESV
Anything outside of the truth, the one and only truth, is a lie. Remember, the human being is in the image of God, this is the truth, and so, what we have seen is what we have seen, and what we have heard is what we have heard, because we have eyes to see and ears to hear, as God sees and hears. Being a witness in court and saying, “I saw this, this, and that”, can be true and a fact, but it cannot be the truth because the truth is God. The Truth will say to you, ‘You have eyes but cannot see. And you have ears though you cannot hear’, not referring to the blind or deaf, but to not understanding correctly what you see and hear.
Decades ago scientists said the Earth was flat. Was that the truth? Of course not. It was a fact (because facts can change, unlike the truth). Now they confirm the Earth is round. Is this the truth? No, it’s still a fact, because the Truth is a Person.
Truth isn’t about what happened or didn’t happen, though it is so in this godless world ruled by the deceiver and destroyer, but not for us who are of the kingdom of God. To God’s children, Truth is about what is pure, undefiled, and perfect forever. Can anyone, being sinful and evil (fallen) really trust their memories and perceptions that are informed by fleeting emotions and thoughts to conjure up truth about themselves and their lives? Recall and memories can lie, but that won’t mean something isn’t real for you.
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”
John 14:6 ESV
Truth should not be mistaken for ‘real’ or ‘reality’. It is everyday life for us all, as far as not being all-knowing and all-seeing, that what is the truth and what is real to us are not the same thing. Someone can say to you, ‘You are very beautiful’, but you could think they are being sarcastic or lying to you, so then, it is true that they are saying you are beautiful but it is not real to you, and you will always remember it as how you absorb it, not as it is or as it may be. We cannot have our own truths, because the truth must stand alone as truth, and if we didn’t create all of creation, then our truth can only be the truth of the Maker.
