When Do People Go to Hell and How Do They Get There?

Hell is the closest thing to our last breath. The revelation of hell was brought forth through God’s Word, the Bible, and so escaping hell is escaping only through the means the Bible describes and that’s through Christ.

For those who are truly in Christ, hell is impossible for them for theirs is the kingdom of God, as Christ already paid for our sins in hell, but was raised because He was the perfect sacrifice and the perfect Son of God (God born of God) and therefore undeserving of being in hell, nevertheless having achieved His mission of dying for the world’s sins.

People go to hell the second after they have died (unless one is in Christ—the life and light that is God). One is closest to hell one second before their body is dead because the second they have died, the following second is them being in hell.

There is no limbo or floating about aimlessly. There is no sleep, there is no unconsciousness. A human spirit and soul cannot die. A human soul stays conscious forever from when it was formed in the womb.

Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭19-26 ESV – “There was a rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.

And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭19‬-‭26‬ ‭ESV‬‬]

Judgment day doesn’t mean those who have passed on are waiting to be cast into hell or welcomed to heaven. Judgment Day is when Christ Jesus, the Judge, will tell most why they are going to be in hell for all eternity, and when He will tell some why they will be in heaven for all eternity.

In fact hell itself, as well as death, and of course the devil (because hell was created particularly for him and his fallen angels [demons]) will also be judged and receive their final reckoning by being thrown into the lake of fire. Because mankind is in the eternal spiritual image of God, death is dying forever.

“Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭20‬:‭14‬ ‭ESV

How Do You Get to Hell

For us to go to hell when we die, it means our souls were already of the kingdom of hell when we were alive. In this instance, physically we are on Earth and in the world, but spiritually we are in and are of the kingdom of hell, and so when our bodies die, we are where we have been all along spiritually.

So, we go to hell because of the way we chose to live on Earth. As a result of the kingdom we represented on Earth, we either go above the Earth or below the Earth, spiritually.

The Consensus

And so, hell is not a religious scare tactic to make us believe in the Christian Faith, hell is a reality in the spiritual realm. Christianity is reality, not religion. The only way hell isn’t real is if a human being is not a spirit soul and if the human being is not evil, wicked, and unholy. Are we not spirits and unholy?

Do we not have thoughts we can’t touch and emotions we can’t touch? Can we touch our minds because they’re not spiritual? And are we the perfect human beings who never had one evil thought or did one unrighteous, hateful, immoral act? Unlike the rest of humankind with two world wars and a world filled with heinous evil worthy of extreme contempt?

The Choice to Believe is Not Ours Alone

I have the honor and privilege of believing because God made it to be so, and so it can only be illogical for me for anyone to not understand this simple logical truth. A human being is a soul and spirit therefore existing in the spiritual realm, and this world we live in is a physical world where our physical bodies are.

A human spirit cannot die in this physical realm because it is spiritual, it can only die in the spiritual realm. And as a human being is a spirit and therefore eternal, spiritual death can only be hell where worms do not die, as the Bible says. Spiritual death is dying forever. Spiritual death is a result of not being in spiritual life, or as God puts it, not being in eternal life.

This Maker of the physical and spiritual world, (as no atom can make anything spiritual because atoms are physical so there can’t not be a spiritual Creator), who has made all this to be as it is, is the One who says eternal life is found only in His manifested body, and that is Christ Jesus.

Heed Him and obey, or be your own god and die eternally for your own sins because, unlike Jesus Christ, we are actually sinful and evil and worthy of an unholy forever. If that’s your provocative then by all means, only your last breath is what stands between you and your desired destiny, dear spirit.

May your mind be renewed, your faith be strengthened, and your peace be anchored in Christ, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
