The Art that is Being Gracious and It’s Benefits

“You often say, ‘I would give, but only to the deserving.’ The trees in your orchard say not so, nor the flocks in your pasture. They give that they may live, for to withhold is to perish. Surely he who is worthy to receive his days and his nights, is worthy of all else from you. And he who has deserved to drink from the ocean of life deserves to fill his cup from your little stream.” – The Prophet By Kahlil Gibran

The species of tigers is made by tigers alone. The human species is made by humans. This means that all humans are connected. The universe was made from the same elements the earth was formed from, and from those same elements still humanity was made and kept reproducing. All creation is connected.

All created creations cannot do one without the other. Without the sun and the moon, the earth is uninhabitable. Without an inhabitable planet, life cannot flourish. And let’s say, without Earth and other planets and their moons, the sun isn’t a solar system where life dwells, it’s just another star in the galaxy. All of creation gives one another meaning of life.

To be in alignment with what we are, it is best that we heed our fellow created creations. To realize that giving from what and who we are is part of our nature, as it’s part of all of nature. In giving itself fully, the sun receives its magnificence. Why would the opposite be true for any human being? The sun doesn’t deplete itself of life and light in giving, it rather brings life and light wherever it goes.

1 John 3:17: “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?”

When we water others is when we are watering ourselves. We are manifesting not only to ourselves but to all of creation that we understand the dance of life and that we are a part of life’s dance. The dance that is giving graciously to not only benefit others’ lives but to benefit our own life in fulfilling the destiny of the universe by God’s design. It it God’s bountiful giving nature that is translated in all of creation.

What is Gracious Giving?

Giving graciously is not just giving many, many things. Giving graciously is giving without expecting anything in return.

“But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” – Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

If we are giving and expecting something in return, we are not actually giving, are we? We are making a transaction. The sun gives its warmth and light to the plants and trees. Plants and trees won’t do anything for the sun in return.

What they’d rather be able to do is become food, the earth’s ventilation, and a serene and habitable environment for all creatures. Yet the sun will have something much greater. It’ll have its fulfillment and divine purpose. What the sun receives from giving graciously is far more abundant and long-lasting than if it expected something in return from trees, plants, and other living organisms.

You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give. – The Prophet

What Are the Benefits of Gracious Giving?

When we give freely without getting anything in return, our being and life reap far more abundantly than they ever could because that act of giving becomes so pure and sincere that it purifies the soul spiritually.

What is pure purifies, what else could it do? Our soul gets cleansed because we are unlearning the transactional nature of the world and reconnecting with the gracious giving nature of the universe in love. Love is who the Creator of all creation is. Love is the Creator’s language. If we are operating in love, we are operating in God Almighty.

Going back to the nature of the universe is going back to our roots and our most pure form of being. A pure soul will transfer over all our lives as our heart reflects who we are.

We absolutely should give greatly when we can do so cheerfully, and we must make sure that when we do give it is gracious (not prideful) and in love. And as The Prophet teaches us, giving of self is the most gracious of gracious giving. Be in love, and you will abound in your capacity to be a part of the language creation speaks as taught by the Creator.

Scripture About the Blessings of Giving

2 Corinthians 9:6-8: “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully… God loves a cheerful giver”

Proverbs 11:24-25: “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. A generous person will be enriched…”

Luke 6:38: “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap”

Acts 20:35: “…It is more blessed to give than to receive”

Proverbs 19:17: “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed”

Hebrews 13:16: “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God”

1 Timothy 6:18-19: “They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, thus storing up treasure for themselves…”

May your mind be renewed, your faith be strengthened, and your peace be anchored in Christ, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
